north of the sea / North of the Sea documents Guillaume's photographic journey along Norway's coastline, informed by his wife's ancestral connection to the region. The series captures fjords, seascapes, and shifting coastal light, exploring how place intersects with personal and family history. A pivotal moment occurred during a family crab-fishing outing when Guillaume released a small bait fish and watched a seagull retrieve it from the water—an observation that revealed the relationship between human action and natural systems. This experience shaped the project's approach: rather than directing scenes, Guillaume adopted an observational stance, allowing moments of light, motion, and stillness to unfold naturally within the frame. The resulting images function as both personal documentation and an invitation for viewers to consider their own connections to landscape and heritage. Through attentive observation of unmediated moments, the work examines how the environment shapes identity and how small gestures can illuminate continuity across generations.
